Description

Arshavir and Rivera, and the ghost of Nikolai.

Quote from "The Succession":

F. DHS Angel Tears is a notable female from a co-breeding done with Dark Hearted Stables (now Storms Mist Briards) out of her bitch DHS Crocodile Tears and from my male, F. Qadir da Qamar. "Rivera" has absolutely no Zakhar or Magnum in her line, only Nikolai. This female is a show stopper. She is very "Corso" and has multiple merits that just cannot be passed up. She is a maiden bitch going up there in age, so we want to combine her with two males in a dual-sired litter to save time. Rivera's head reminds me so much of Qadir, but Qadir's body length was really corrected by Croc, and this shows through in Rivera. She looks like a male, which is acceptable in this breed and I almost prefer it, rather than a noticeably bitchy female. If she had a bigger head, she basically would be a male, without the male parts of course. She has a slight slope in the croup, gorgeous thighs, angulation, musculature, top and underline, correct withers, thick and short but long-enough neck, a squared off muzzle, correct cat feet, huge bone, and a front assembly that will knock you out. Plus, her eyes are that dreamy bright caramel orange that I adore.

Rivera's first partner will be her great grandsire, Nikolai. This will be done through an artificial insemination because Nikolai is no longer. The reasons I am going back on Nikolai with Rivera are many. The first being that Rivera is an outcross. There is no homogeneity in her. This needs to be brought into her in order for me to know what her offspring will produce. Nikolai was my sweet-tempered Russian import who I loved nearly. People who don't like my breed of choice liked Nikolai, because he was simply a great, friendly dog. This, however, is not the typical Corso temperament, but it is important for people to see a Corso and know that it is a good dog. (Some perceive a reserved, aloof temperament to be "bad" or scary, which is not the case, so a Nikolai-like temperament is needed.) He also had a beautiful conformation to the standard and good overall structure. There was only one specific fault and that was the straightness of his croup, but this will be corrected by blood prepotent to throw the right "curves."

Rivera's second partner will be an outcross to her, once again. His name is Arshavir and this will be his first breeding. Because he is not proven (but his bloodline is), we thought we may as well do an outcross within a dual-sired litter, because if this half doesn't work out (the Arshavir half), the Nikolai half will definitely work out because I know what I'm getting. It's really a win-win situation to test out the production capability of an unproven import male.

Arshavir "Archie" is a gorgeous blue brindle who I feel carries many of the same strong points as Rivera. He is strong, not square, has a masculine appearance, Corso overall, a distinct but correct head. When the two are together, I feel they are a remarkable match up but only time will tell. I am going off pure phenotypical compensation (strengths covering weaknesses) because I cannot blend their pedigrees to complement one another, since they are not related at all. All I can do is hope the result of their appearances blending will match up genetically, but that is not always the case.
