Red Hot and Blue - Young Adult by reinafawn Fay by reinafawn fay! by reinafawn

Welcome to the page of F. Red Hot and Blue, thrown by Blitz's Hard to See (Siren), owned by Lion Hearted Kennels, sired by F. Amadeo. She is linebred 2-2 on Magnum, blue import male of relatively large stature but athletic and very close to standard.

Reg'd Name:       F. Red Hot and Blue
Call Name:      Fay, Chubberbutt, Blue Butt

Other Pictures
:pointr: Adult, Edmonton Show Drawn Dec. 29/11

Phenotype
Somewhat washed out blue with very pink mucosal membranes. Dull pink-brown paw pads. Good length of muzzle in comparison to skull, but bite is a reverse scissors at 7.5 weeks. Occipital bone juts but eyes are not bulging. Smooth over top of skull with a slight dip in between the eyes. Pea-sized bone in tear ducts of eyes is felt (skull will develop in good proportion to muzzle). Large bone but not noticeably heavier than should be at age. Moderate amount of jowl. Good teeth and bite. Thick but supple skin, short and stiff fur. Tail docked at 4th vertebra. Ears amputated in correct Cane Corso crop style. Hind legs are moderately angled and croup slightly drops from point of hip to point of buttock; tailset about halfway between the two points. Body longer than height from wither to bottom of forefoot. Slightly angled pasterns and good feet with tight toes. "Dry" type. No wrinkles except visible furrow between eyes and on forehead.

Temperament: Volhard 4.2
Curious, self confident, somewhat wary of certain objects until realizes there is no threat. Not particularly forceful. If given a correct, will leave it alone, and usually remembers. Not one to challenge much; though, she never had other littermates to challenge her, so this may need to be watched. Gets along with the other dogs in the pack in small amounts of time together. Very interested in a chew toy.

History
Fay was the single puppy in the Siren/Amadeo's litter, and the reason was determined to be because Amadeo is getting rather old; although, some sires produce full-sized litters past 10 years. It was probably a combination of things. She was born at 3:04pm (thank GOODNESS in a "normal" hour of the day) after Siren went into labor 30 minutes prior. Fay was delivered with the placenta, cleaned off, but was blowing bubbles from her nose, so I "swung" her and sucked out any more fluid from her nasal passages and throat, and she began breathing on her own. She was immediately put to Siren's teat, and Fay was rather thrifty from then on. At 7.5 weeks old, my friend, a retired dog handler, evaluated her for structural soundness and temperament. She was noted to be "excellent" in proportions, better than Amadeo was at his age. Amadeo had a very large chest and was somewhat front heavy, but had good rear strength that caused him to gait smoothly. Fay was proportionate with not too deep of a chest, with a nice, long neck, good layback of shoulder, nice upper arm, and is longer than is tall. She will stay with us as a prospect until she gets fully health tested at around 24 months old. At that time, it will be determined if she is a fitting breeding prospect.

Age:    12 weeks
Height:  Unknown
Weight:  38 lbs

Health Tested by the ODAKHC
Hips: 0.41/0.32 (B) + Excellent
:bulletred: Elbows: 0.70/0.44 (E) + Borderline (will be re-tested in 1 month)
Heart: Normal; no evidence of cardiomyopathy or murmur.
Thyroid: Normal.
Eyes: Clear.
CMR-Clear

Since radiographs have shown one elbow to be right at the point of "borderline dysplastic," which we are very surprised to see, she will be retested in 1 month to see if it was possibly bad positioning. She will rest from hard playing and jumping during this time just to make sure. :(

Update: Her second elbow test gave us 0.54 on the right side, which is a grading of "fair." I got another veterinarian to look at her previous x-ray. Guess what she said. BAD POSITIONING! OMG! Imagine if I had spayed Fay because of a borderline dysplastic elbow and then find out later it was just poor positioning. That's why it's SO important to go to a good vet who knows what they are doing! Research yourself what good vs bad positioning looks like too. Could save your breeding program!
