Emilia

"In Summer 2010, I purchased a formentino female from Russia, of Italian and Romanian descent. This female became available to me after I asked to be put on a notification list if any bitches were to become available by this breeder. I asked for a specific type to complement Zakhar, which I described to the breeder. I asked for a bitch of any color, good bone size, athletic, rustic, good height, and correct structure. The female who became available was 26 months old and was very rustic. Her skull and muzzle axes were almost parallel, still converging but close to not converging (which is a breed trait). Her front and hind angulation matched each other but they were slightly under the norm, but she had a beautiful topline, croup, underline, neck, and her overall was what was needed to complement and strengthen Zakhar, as he was very typey.  I renamed this female Emilia, because I was 'eager' to begin Fortezza."

Emilia was bred to Zakhar, producing Emilio, Zaccarias, and Gabriella.

Gabriella

"Gabriella was an improvement of both Zakhar and Emilia. She had great hind angulation, deep chest, abdominal tuckup was high but it was okay, a dynamic head with converging axes but not too much jowl (like Emilia), flexible pasterns, masculine overall. She was a blue brindle who everyone thought was a boy. I called her Gabe. She helped begin the second line of Fortezza, the Magnum line."

Gabriella was bred to Magnum, producing Arabela.

Arabela

"Arabela was also a rich blue, tall and muscular. At the time, she was the best dog I had produced yet. She was a very powerful female, both genetically and physically, and it was with her that I began to see Fortezza take shape and move away from Zakhar and Emilia and into something greater. She was independent, only moderately dominant, highly intelligent, sweet like Amadeo but quite a bit more reserved than him, quiet, with an inherent ability to track and desire to solve problems. She needed a lot of exercise and when she was exercised, you could take her anywhere, to any place, and she was absolutely bombproof. Just an awesome all around female!"

Arabela was bred to Emilio, producing Francesca.

Francesca

"Francesca was the EXACT thing I was hoping for in the Emilio x Arabela breeding. She reminds me of a new and improved version of Emilia even though it was a linebreeding on Zakhar; Emilia was still in there somewhere. Francesca is a formentino like Emilia but much more "Corso;" not quite as rustic, yet not quite as super typey as Zakhar, just in between. She is 26" at the shoulder, 110 lbs, DOMINANT, quiet, requires strict and firm handling, wary, and aloof, and, again, bombproof like her dam. She was the culmination of all the blood I put together and it showed! She had good hips, excellent elbows, normal heart and thyroid and eyes. A DNA test became available and she was negative for it too! (Canine multifocal retinopathy)"

Francesca was bred to Shamar (Zakhar son), producing Zaccaro and Adora.

Adora

"Adora is a lightly-colored formentino with caramel eyes, signifying Zakhar's dominant trait. Linebred 2-4-3-4 on Zakhar, she is an exceptional bitch who represents the breed both physically and mentally. Her mind is clear; she knows what she wants and how she should get what she wants. She is very driven, very willful, and affirms my belief that a Cane Corso is one of the most versatile large breeds in the world. She is well balanced in every thing she is and does. She is an easy keeper. She is maternal. She has never been ill and has never had a coat or skin issue. She has a strong stomach and can eat anything without getting sick. I have never seen her be nervous. She is in self control in stressful situations and remains collected in times where other dogs would be flicking their tongues, whale eyeing, and shaking. She is my best bitch to date in more ways than one, and it will take a special combination to produce another like her, nevermind another better than her. "

Adora was bred to Azikiel (Raziel x Azika - imports to Fortezza), producing Arrigo and Azulekha.

Azulekha

Azulekha reminds me so much of Emilia but is quite far away from her. She is the production of my Zakhar line coming together with a brand new, more rustic line, like the one Emilia came out of. Because of that, Azulekha's head type is getting away from the more chunky, masculine kind like her two predecessors, and back into a more refined way. She is strong minded, protective, and quite territorial. She is extremely smart. Being a complete outcross, it is interesting to see how she is such a good combination of her parents. There is lots of Zakhar in her maternally, and paternally is very athletic, smaller Cane Corso. They blended well together, producing consistency from the first generation.

The SuccessionWarning: The below story/description is completely fictional and written for the DARPG. If you don't know what that is, reading anything past this is going to be extremely confusing and possibly extremely strange. Long story short, it is fake and just for fun.
Since Spring, we at Fortezza have been planning multiple new and exciting generations that we believe will be much better than the previous, what with the two new imports and bringing in what we call the "modern old blood" of antiquity. In the past, I have spoken of the Zakhar line and how it has drawn to a close for a season in order to make room and time for newness. Fortezza is ever changing but it will ever be the same as far as code of ethics, our goals, and what we truly believe. This offers a freshness as well as continued comfort in knowing that we only intend to better what we already have, never make unnecessary sacrifices, and never let go of what we know to be right.
The "modern old blood" is mostly the Zakhar line--b
History of Fortezza Cane Corso BloodlineIn 2009, I imported my first Cane Corso, Zakhar, a black brindle male with dark red base coat, caramel eyes, big boned, muscular, short male who many felt was undersized in height when I first imported him and told me I was crazy for doing so. They also told me I was stupid to first import a male, not a female. The opportunity to import a young adult male from Italy from the bloodline I had been studying for years came upon me, I had the cash and the means, so I contacted his breeder who outright sold him to me, no breeding rights asked for and no actual contract to speak of other than a guarantee of health and fertility. It may not have been the greatest choice in the first place; however, this male had a proven bloodline, numerous predecessors who were working dogs, show dogs, and had excellent, typical temperament that most breeders in North America don't have. The male was 17 months at the time, so I was taking a ga

Like my photomanip? I tried as best as possible to make it look like they were all standing there together, but at the time of this submission, the three from the left are resting in peace, and the fourth's face is grey. c:
